Halloween Q#2: What’s your favorite scary movie? ;)

Halloween 1 & 2 still scary the living daylights out of me (have to watch both of them together) - Michael Myers has got to be one of the most terrifying murderers out there, and you don’t even get to hear him speak or see his face. And the worst part? HE NEVER STOPS.

Share some of your favorites, could use some ideas on which to watch. :D

Halloween Q#1: Which video game freaked you out the most and why?

Could be a whole series of games, or just a particular one.

Personally for me, the Silent Hill series freaked the crap out of me. I also found the first BioShock to have some REALLY great shock moments where you had no idea what was going to happen. Then there was F.E.A.R., Doom 3…yeah, I got scared by a lot of things. XD

Conservative Pundit Says Video Games Are Making Men “Pathetic”

Wait, what?

According to Game Informer, William Bennett (a well known cultural commentator who served as U.S. Secretary of Education under George H.W. Bush) had some pretty harsh words for men who play video games in his book The Book of Man: Readings on the Path to Manhood. Apparently, guys’ video game habits are a contributing factor to the decline of males in education and the workforce.

In the article, entitled “Why Men Are In Trouble,” Bennett calls out video games in a couple of passages. In the first he writes, “Man’s response has been pathetic. Today, 18-to- 34-year-old men spend more time playing video games a day than 12-to- 17-year-old boys. While women are graduating college and finding good jobs, too many men are not going to work, not getting married and not raising families. Women are beginning to take the place of men in many ways. This has led some to ask: do we even need men?”

He concludes the article by stating “We may need to say to a number of our twenty-something men, ‘Get off the video games five hours a day, get yourself together, get a challenging job and get married.’ It’s time for men to man up.”

Well that’s a bit extreme, I’d like to know where his research came from. Maybe some guys are a bit lazy, but any guy I know who loves to game is currently going to college and working hard to fulfill their dreams of whatever it is they want to be. And they’re all out there trying to date. Besides, girls are gaming too…are they not even considered here or do females balance it better? I love to play but it isn’t effecting what’s important like doing well in school…

I think this is a bit ridiculous, because some people are just plain lazy and you can’t help that. Can’t just use video games as a scapegoat - if it wasn’t Xbox or PlayStation, it’d be their laptops or TV making them procrastinate. Or going out and partying. Seriously now…

Gamer Discussion: Where Do You Stand In This Year’s FPS War?

This may have been asked before, but as the holidays are fast approaching and I’ve never gotten a huge amount of responses, so I’m hoping to really stir up a good debate this time and hear how you guys feel about this year’s FPS war.

Call of Duty has been on top of the FPS world for several years now, with annual editions putting up insane sales numbers. I’m a huge fan of the series myself, and I still find myself playing the multiplayer and Zombies mode with my friends. However, this fall sees the arrival of its biggest competition to date in the form of Battlefield 3. I’ve never personally tried Battlefield, but I hear great things about it and I really want to also give it a shot. However, many gamers are feeling divided over these 2 amazing FPS. Some are being SUPER protective of their favorite franchise, and others don’t get what the fuss is about - why not try both?

Now, the big question: Where do you stand in the upcoming FPS war, and why?

Be nice, gamers: I know 99.9% are well versed in the art of trash talking, but please try to keep your comments civilized instead of turning this into a giant flame war. Not trying to hurt feelings here, but to shed some light on which direction gamers are leaning. Which one are you going to buy? Are you going to get both? Or are you sick of FPS dominating the gaming market and are getting neither?

Share your opinions, gamers!
